Wow

It's been almost 3 months since I last visited this site.  I knew that I'd eventually drift away from writing posts regularly but I didn't expect to it to happen so quickly... or did I.

Anyways, a lot has happened since my last post.  Summer break has come and gone, college has started up again, and the end of the world is nigh, if you're into the whole 2012 phenomenon.  Still, even with everything going on, the thing that gets me the most isn't change.  It's what hasn't changed that intrigues, amuses, and perplexes me.  Now, I recognize that there's potential to have a "2-for-1" by having my musings tie into the nation's current political situation but I'm not a political guy.

You'd think that dedicating the summer after your Freshman year of college to finding out what really makes you happy would bring you closer to choosing the perfect major, right?  Actually, yeah, it has kind of helped.  Kind of, but not to the extent that I thought it would.  I'm still relatively clueless on where(in terms of a college career) I want to take my life.

Nonetheless, I have been able to narrow down my options to following a path towards Architecture or going the Psychology/Pre-Med route.

I've still got a lot going through my head right now.  So much so that I feel like my current, focused thoughts are being drowned out by random thoughts.  Maybe this is why it took me so long to write th

Driving Out West

I'm pretty much all packed up for the trip with a few things here and there that still need to be taken care of.  Besides the week long backpack through one of Sequoia's back-country trails, there's next to nothing that's set in stone.  The freedom to go out and see what's out west is exciting and it's what going to make this experience a memorable one.  I'll see what I can do in terms of writing down thoughts and documenting interesting things.  It mainly depends on whether or not I'll have access to the internet while crossing the country.  The night sky should be available in its unpolluted glory and the daylight will be at its most plentiful.  I can't wait.

Goals for 2011-2021

Turning 18 years old in 2011, I began to think about the seemingly limitless possibilities that opened up.  I also wondered about the amount of time I to take advantage of these new possibilities and how overwhelmingly limited it seemed in comparison.  I figured I'd make myself a list of things to do so that I could get the most out of life.  However, I decided that, unlike a bucket list that has the day you die as the end date, my list would end in 2021, ten years after I turned 18.  It just seemed better.

It would be unbelievable if I managed to do half the things on my list let alone everything so my goal for this list is to attempt all, but succeed at eight.  Eight would make me a happy camper.  Here's a look at some:
  • Learn how to play piano and/or (ideally "and") guitar
  • Become a decent cook
  • Go CouchSurfing
  • Travel West across America
  • Continue studying Spanish
  • Go to Oktoberfest
  • Take a motorcycle from the west coast of Ireland to St. Petersburg
  • Watch both the Aurora Borealis and the Aurora Australis
  • See the Night Sky unadulterated
  • Go to the East Coast in Autumn
  • Experience El Clasico
  • Watch a Total Solar Eclipse
  • Explore a cenote
  • Go storm chasing
  • Learn more languages (Russian, Arabic, German, Italian, French, the list could go on)
  • B.A.S.E. jump with a wingsuit in Norway
  • Live with a Native Tribe
  • Go off the grid for a period of time
There's a whole lot more to this list that I'm just too lazy to put on.  I might add more or edit this list to make it an actual method of keeping track of things or I might not.  We'll see.

My First Post

I figured I should keep myself occupied by creating this blog.  I've taken my first step by creating it and now I've got to work on maintaining it.  I plan on using this blog as a location to collect various thoughts and other things within my life.  Feel free to take a look.

So what's going on right now?  I'm excited to drive across the country and live for the moment.  I realize that life is short and I want to enjoy every moment of it.  I'm still unsure of what I want to do with my life career-wise. I am sure that whatever I do in the future, traveling and frequently exploring new things will be a part of it.
